CEDA’s team are here to support you and help answer any questions you may have. 

The CEDA team are working with our partners in central and local government, and agencies such as New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, MBIE, Tourism New Zealand, Education New Zealand, Immigration New Zealand and more to support our business community during this challenging time. This ensures we can bring you the most up to date information and resource and can connect you to the support you need.  

Ways CEDA can help include:   

  • Connecting you to professional service providers to assist you with the issues that you are facing e.g. cash flow management, business continuity management
  • Provide you with relevant and up to date information on how and where to access Government support including navigating the Wage Subsidy Scheme, and the Business Finance Guarantee Scheme
  • Assist Māori businesses on Government support available
  • Provide you with an experienced Business Mentor to provide additional guidance over the next 12 months. Business Mentors come with specific skills and are matched depending on your needs
  • Facilitate funding for Research and Development including project grants

Funding Categories

For businesses who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 and who are wanting to access advice to help navigate these impacts, there are funding available through the COVID-19 Business Advisory Fund and Tourism Transitions Fund. If your business is focused on building capability and growth you may be eligible for Management Capability Development funding.

For the Manawatu-Whanganui region, this funding is administered through CEDA, whose team of Business Growth Advisors are on hand to help businesses understand and access the help, support and training that is available.

COVID-19 Business Advisory Fund

The Government have provided an additional $40 million to be delivered nationally through the Regional Business Partner programme to provide SME’s with the support required to navigate, and survive the effects of COVID-19 on their businesses.

Eligible business impacted by COVID-19 can access 100% funding up to $5,000 excl. GST for support in the following areas:

  • HR and Employee Relations
  • Financial and Cashflow Management
  • Health and Wellness
  • Business Continuity Planning
  • Marketing Strategy
  • Digital Enablement Strategy

Tourism Transitions Fund

The Government announced a $10m investment from the Tourism Sector Recovery Fund to the Regional Business Partners (RBP) network specifically for small-medium tourism businesses impacted by COVID-19. This free support for tourism and events businesses is called the ‘Tourism Transitions Programme’ and is available through CEDA’s delivery of the Regional Business Partners network for the wider Manawat?-Whanganui area.

Tourism businesses can access 100% funded support up to $5,000 excl. GST per business to gain advice and support in the areas outlined below:

  • HR and Employee Relations
  • Financial and Cashflow Management
  • Health and Wellness
  • Business Continuity Planning including hibernation & exiting the business
  • Marketing Strategy
  • Digital Enablement Strategy

Management Capability Development Fund

This fund offers businesses up to 50% co-funded support for management coaching and training services to build management capability within the business. To access this funding business must meet these criteria:

  • Have 50 or fewer FTEs
  • Be currently trading
  • GST Registered
  • Is a privately owned or Maori trust or incorporation or similar organisation managing Maori assets under multiple ownership
  • Demonstrate a willingness and capacity to grow

Research & Development Services (RTS)

Callaghan Innovation is offering co-funding for its Research and Development Services (RTS) where your business could access 50% co-funding for up to 200 hours of RTS. This includes accessing expert advice in the following areas:

  • Advanced Materials
  • Biotechnologies
  • IoT and Data Solutions
  • Advanced Manufacturing

To access this funding business must meet these criteria:

  • Be an NZ business with fewer than 100 full-time equivalent employees
  • Have received the Wage Subsidy, Wage Subsidy Extension, or a Small Business Cashflow Loan
