Purchased two years ago by Reuben and Alice Ebrey, the park is a holiday hotspot for families from around the country and has increasing numbers of tourists staying.

“The previous park owners have won the several times before, and our goal is to reach that same standard” says Mr Ebrey.

“We knew we couldn’t compete on size, so we have focused on customer service. It’s all about making people feel at home and fixing things when issues are raised.”

Mr Ebrey says the capacity of the Holiday Park is about 250 people and it is booked out around Christmas and New Year and again every public holiday with Kiwi families.

“We have increasing numbers of tourists arriving in motorhomes, and it’s also popular with Palmerston North residents who want a relaxed and friendly getaway by the sea – a great recipe for a relaxing family break, even in winter,” he says.

Palmerston North City i-SITE manager Emily Wall says being named a finalist is a great achievement.

“It’s recognition of great team work from Reuben and Alice. Their focus on customer service is a great example for others in the tourist sector – if you want to learn how to do it, talk to them.”

Holiday Parks New Zealand Chief Executive Fergus Brown says the award is about businesses that consistently go well beyond what would normally be expected.

“To be a finalist in the award is a fantastic achievement and all five finalists have demonstrated consistently high levels of customer satisfaction,” he says.

The parks are role models for the holiday park sector which last year provided over 7.7 million guest nights. While staying at holiday parks, guests contributed over $1 billion in direct expenditure to local communities, many of which are in provincial or rural areas.

The finalists are:

All Seasons Holiday Park Rotorua
Athenree Hot Springs & Holiday Park
Himatangi Beach Holiday Park
Millers Flat Holiday Park
Russell TOP 10 Holiday Park

The winner of the 2017 Spirit of Hospitality Award will be announced at the Holiday Parks Conference in Dunedin in August.
