Build and grow the hospitality sector with UCOL

It’s no news to anyone that the New Zealand hospitality industry is struggling with a labour shortage, exacerbated by the border closure, lack of migrants and COVID-19 restrictions impacting how and when they can operate.

To support the talent shortage within the hospitality sector and reignite the excitement and opportunities of this vibrant industry, UCOL has introduced a new blended delivery for the Level 4, New Zealand Certificate in Cookery, in-work. After listening to concerns of business owners and students seeking a career in this field, the newfound ‘blended’ approach allows businesses immediate access to staff, and budding chefs the opportunity to learn while they earn, meaning students can train for their cookery qualification while gaining hands on experience in the industry.

CEDA's Talent and Skills Manager, Sara Towers says, ”It’s great to see UCOL applying an alternative delivery model for this certificate. This new offering from UCOL is a fantastic initiative that directly supports our local hospitality industry to grow their workforce needs.”

“This in-work model of delivery also enables those completing this qualification on-the-job, to not only be a student, but also an employee at the same time, so they can ‘earn while they learn’! And what better way of applying learning than directly in the workplace.”Programme information:

  • Level 4
  • Duration: 34 weeks, via UCOL's Blended Delivery
  • Locations: UCOL Manawatū and UCOL Whanganui
