In the year to February 2020, the Manawatū visitor economy was worth over $500 million to the city and region. Visitation supports local businesses and employment opportunities while adding diversity and vibrancy for residents and visitors to enjoy. Visitors to our region support our great facilities, including cafes and restaurants, retailers and activities, our vibrant arts scene, parks and reserves, as well as experiencing our popular walking tracks and trails, wildlife experiences and beaches.

This community sentiment survey aims to help us to better understand the local perception on the value of visitation to the region and how we can work together to increase the value received from visitors, enhance the quality of life, and ultimately create a better Manawatū for everyone to enjoy. Hearing the voice of resident’s will allow us to gain local knowledge invaluable to have a better understanding of how we can align our marketing and business support strategies and bring even more economic activity to the region.

Manawatū’s visitor economy comprises of an extensive network of businesses, amenities, and diverse communities. As well as the typical ‘tourist’ businesses such as accommodation and tour providers, our region has diverse fabric of businesses who all play a key part in our visitor market.

Our hospitality and retail sector have significant visitor spend, and our arts, culture, and heritage scene all add a compelling and colourful dimension to the regions appeal and visitation. Additionally, our events sector and major venues are key players in attracting and leveraging our visitor market and increasing spend and stay within the region.

We look forward to receiving your feedback to support the economic prosperity of the Manawatū visitor industry!
