Bringing Manawatū’s stories to life through education, innovation and iwi partnership
In partnership with Rangitāne o Manawatū, CEDA launched He Ara Kotahi, Hei Ara Kōrero to bring the stories of the Manawatū awa to life through an interactive digital experience. In the first year since launch, more than people explored the site, which offers animated stories, video recreations and audio resources based on six culturally significant sites along the river.
The project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Manawatū’s regional identity, connect people to place, and support iwi-led initiatives that build cultural, social and educational outcomes. Six free-to-use education toolkits have now been developed for teachers of Years 7 to 10, linking directly to Te Takanga o te Wā and providing a Rangitāne-led resource for local curriculum delivery.
By supporting this kaupapa, CEDA is helping to create a region where young people understand the stories of their place, communities are connected to local history, and iwi are empowered to lead digital innovation and the preservation of mātauranga Māori.
