Manawatū is a thriving and innovative region with bright young professionals making a real impact in our business community.  Manawatū Young Professionals Network (MYPN) is a community of people in the region, aged between 18 and 35 who come together to socialise and participate in personal and professional development activities.

We had the chance to kōrero with incoming MYPN President Lauren Mitchell to find out more about MYPN and the support and connections you can make through the organisation,

Why do we need an organisation such as MYPN?

We need MYPN because, while we have social media, as adults it is becoming increasingly hard to make meaningful connections. MYPN is a great way to meet like minded people to create social and professional networks.

What are the benefits of joining MYPN?

The benefits of joining MYPN is having networks with people at similar life stages as you. You are exposed to fun events such as croquet night, wine tastings and first home buyers seminars. You are able to join and become a member for a fee of $20 a year giving you access to discounts and priority tickets to events. Non members are also welcomed with open arms at events.

Being a member of MYPN can also provide leadership opportunities and development through being part of our board. Having a position on our board can enable you to have an impact and influence on the experience young professionals have in Manawatū.

Do you have any examples where being part of MYPN has led to career opportunities?

Being involved in MYPN has given me the opportunity to apply for scholarships within my profession. It has also enabled me to become more confident within my workplace to take up new opportunities for professional development.

What do you like best about being part of MYPN?

It has given me a great social network which made moving to Palmerston North an easier transition. The friend group that I have developed from this group has had a positive impact on my time in Manawatu. I have also learnt a lot of helpful information at professional development evenings.

What is the best way for our young professionals to connect with MYPN?

Follow MYPN on our Facebook page, sign up to our newsletters and find our website or come to our drinks and social networking held at the office the first Wednesday at The Office on Main Street.
