The results of the 2026 Manawatū Business Survey are in, providing valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges shaping our regional economy. We would like to thank the businesses that took part, your input helps us better understand the needs of local businesses so we can advocate for the region, make informed decisions, and deliver initiatives that support sustainable growth. Cautious confidence and steady growth.

Overall, businesses remain cautiously optimistic across the region and are expecting to see growth over the next 12 months, despite highlighting some ongoing challenges. It appears skills shortages continue to limit growth, particularly in leadership, digital capability, sales and operational efficiency, but there is consensus that Manawatū is well positioned for growth particularly in agritech, logistics, innovation, construction, manufacturing and technology.

We are seeing a shift in AI use as it moves into the mainstream, but many businesses need practical support to adopt it effectively.

Our region's lifestyle continues to be a real strength, and we continue to work hard to strengthen Manawatū's identity as a destination for talent, investment and visitors.
