Largest ever selection of career options at the 2018 Sort It Careers Expo

High school and tertiary students or anyone already in the workforce who may be looking for a career change, will have the opportunity to explore and connect with more than 70 exhibitors at the Sort It Careers Expo held in Palmerston North, Thursday May 17 2018.

Exhibitors at the expo include national and local businesses, trade training providers and tertiary institutes. The industries will include construction, engineering, media and design, tourism, agriculture, distribution and logistics, the New Zealand Police and Defence Force, among others.

“The Sort It Careers Expo is a major event for residents in Palmerston North and neighbouring regions, who want to learn more about career options and discover what their next step may be,” says Julia Giles, Central Economic Development Agency’s Event Coordinator.

The free event has two sessions on Thursday May 17; 9.30am-3.30pm and 6pm-8pm. More than 2,500 students from 19 secondary schools will be attending and both sessions are open to people of all ages.

The expo is delivered by the Central Economic Development Agency (CEDA) and plays a key role in the delivery of one if its strategic objectives: to grow and retain education and talent in the region so businesses have the skills to grow.

“Exhibitors get the opportunity to directly engage with their future talent pool and have conversations that can shape the potential of future employees,” says Tessa Lyons, Central Economic Development Agency’s Events Senior.

“They can discuss the pathways and training requirements directly with interested talent, meaning attendees have a better understanding of the necessary steps to become successful applicants in their chosen career field.”

“This means exhibitors improve and progress the employability of Manawatū region,” she says.
