The Central Economic Development Agency (CEDA) and Palmerston North Women’s Refuge are thrilled to be hosting an exciting event that brings together three inspirational Te Aho Tāmaka leaders.
The event, ‘Celebrate International Womens Day’, will be a panel discussion with three Te Aho Tāmaka Manawatū Leaders, each of whom are change makers in their own fields; Dr. Farah Palmer – former Black Fern Captain and the only woman on the NZ Rugby Board, Vanisa Dhiru – NZ National Commission for UNESCO and former President of the National Council of Women NZ, and Linda Jenkinson – global entrepreneur and businesswoman.
Each of the panellists will share their journeys, discuss gender inequality and challenges they have faced in their industries, highlight some of the changes they have seen and made during their careers, and address how we can collectively tackle the unfinished business of empowering all women and girls in years to come.
Jenkinson is particularly keen to discuss some practical questions at the event. “I was brought up in a man’s world and for me, I see myself as a courageous woman, but the #metoo movement has made me think about how I can be more courageous, that’s the question of our time. How do we systemically change?”
The diversity of expertise and passions that the Te Aho Tāmaka kaupapa (programme) celebrates and recognises is evident in our participating leaders. A CEDA initiative, the kaupapa connects with and celebrates highly accomplished leaders who are associated with Manawatū and are proud of the bond they have with the region and the role this has played in their journey.
“There are some incredibly talented and globally recognised individuals that have come from, or whose journeys are connected to, the Manawatū,” says Linda Stewart, CEDA CEO.
“This event is an exciting example of our high-achieving leaders giving back to the region while addressing a key issue in society and inspiring others to be changemakers and leaders in their own ways.”
The event will be held at Te Manawa Art Gallery on Monday 9 March 2020, 5.30pm and includes an opportunity to mix and mingle prior to the main event. All profits from ticket sales will be donated to the Palmerston North Women’s Refuge
